At its fourth quarter 2020 financial results conference, Nissan highlighted its latest results in the electric car arena and hinted at great interest in the upcoming Ariya model.

According to the Japanese automaker, the number of Ariya’s “manual levers” – potential customers who have expressed interest in purchasing the car – is today over 100,000 in the world.

We’re not sure exactly how many, but it seems like a decent number a few months into the market launch.

By the way, sales of Nissan LEAF are improving compared to a difficult period last year – in the fourth quarter of 2020 (third quarter of the fiscal year for Nissan in Japan), sales increased by 14% from a year over year to reach about 18,000. In the second quarter it was just over 5,000 and in the third quarter about 12,000 to 13,000.

The 4R Energy business (second life of EV batteries) is growing as there are more used batteries from the first wave of electric cars.

Returning to Ariya, this new all-electric crossover / SUV from Japan will launch in the second quarter of this year. At the start of Q2 in fact, according to the graph:

Hopefully for Nissan it will be a turning point to get back into the EV game again. Ariya has a significant chance to make a splash, but of course it all depends on how the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance’s new CMF-EV platform performs against fierce competition.
