The fans of the San Jose Earthquakes are ready for the beginning of the Matias Almeyda era.

Last year was tough for fans of the MLS of Northern California. The Quakes managed only four wins and gained 21 points in the campaign. That makes the season the worst for an MLS team since the 2013 season of D.C. United.

Now, Almeyda has arrived and, despite some rumors to the contrary, he seems to be ready to go to work. The team went to Mexico for a long grueling training camp, but changing the state of mind was perhaps more important than putting the players in shape.

Almeyda has no obvious role to play in the role "Rodolfo Pizarro", the free attack that the Mexican international played while Chivas won the League Cup double and later Champions League Concacaf under the direction of Almeyda. Veteran goalkeeper Daniel Vega seems to have won the post in the offseason, although he may be pushed by the young American international JT Marcinkowski. The Quakes have four registered goalies, so one of them will likely spend time with Reno, affiliated with the USL.
