As part of its determination to raise the standard of Ibadan Airport, the Oyo State Government facilitated the start of flights from Ibadan by Air Peace Airlines.
Sources close to the airport confirmed on Wednesday that the airline had decided to enlist the route to Ibadan following what was described as “encouragement” by the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.
It has been understood that the airline has already reported the sale of tickets at all of its outlets.
The airline, in a confirmation notice reportedly issued to Ibadan airport authorities, said it would begin flights from Abuja to Ibadan and back from August 16, 2021.
“Air Peace Airlines begins operations in Ibadan on August 16. He will drive Abuja to Ibadan and back, ”the notice said.
Sources close to the Ibadan government have also confirmed that the airline has made plans to shut down operations from Ibadan.
A source close to the government, aware of developments, told Ibadan on Wednesday: “Of course, it is true that Air Peace is launching flights to Ibadan from mid-August 2021.

“This is a good testament to Governor Seyi Makinde’s efforts to straighten out the airport and help it achieve the international level it deserves.”
“If all the regional airports established at the same time as Ibadan’s are already doing well, why shouldn’t Ibadan Airport take advantage of its proximity to Lagos to take a share of the goodies from Lagos.”
“The governor is doing everything to make sure and that is why Air Peace has finalized the arrangements to start flying on the Ibadan route.”
“You will recall that in addition to purchasing a sophisticated fire truck and other equipment that facilitated the airport’s Category Six certification, the Oyo State government also awarded the contract for the installation of an aviation fuel facility with a capacity of 500,000 liters at the airport at a cost of 1.2 billion naira.
“This is aside from other ancillary work, including runway and terminal repair work.”
“I can tell you that the government of Oyo State is doing everything to ensure that Ibadan Airport not only achieves the long-awaited international status, but also begins to serve as an immediate alternative to the airport. Murtala Muhammed from Lagos in case of congestion. and even weather challenges.
“It does not bode well for Nigeria that whenever international flights cannot land in Lagos, they go to Accra, Ghana, while Ibadan Airport is easily accessible for this purpose and with the Fully operational Lagos / Ibadan train and reconstruction of Lagos / Ibadan Expressway, passengers will have no difficulty getting to their destination from Ibadan.
