Despite the UK lockdown, moviegoers have something to applaud after it was revealed there will be a new Paddington film.
Studiocanal has confirmed that work has started on a third film in the hit series.
The previous two films were hugely successful when released in 2014 and 2017, with the sequel becoming the best rated film on aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 100%.

This could be in part due to Hugh Grant’s starring turn as the failed actor villain Phoenix Buchanan.
Grant starred alongside Sally Hawkins, Hugh Bonneville and Ben Whishaw who all reprized their roles from the first blockbuster film which cost $ 282million (£ 203million) at the box office.
Nicole Kidman has taken on the role of an evil taxidermist who wants to add Paddington to her collection in the first film.
It’s unclear who will be returning to the cast for the third film, but a new villain will no doubt be needed.
Studiocanal told Variety: “We can confirm that Studiocanal is working very hard on film 3 with the utmost craftsmanship and care – as with films 1 and 2.”
Variety also reported that last week in an interview with BBC Radio 2’s The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show, Bonneville said there was a “push forward” to the project, and that it was “something leaves on the horizon “.
Writer-director Paul King directed the first two films and has previously said he won’t be directing the third film but will still be involved.

Colin Firth was originally due to the voice of the bear in love with marmalade, but bowed out in a “conscious decoupling” and was replaced by Whishaw late in the project.
Paddington Bear was created by Michael Bond and named after the London station where he was found.
He first appeared in 1958 in the book A Bear Called Paddington, which chronicles how he was kicked out of Darkest Peru and traveled to Britain where he was adopted by the Brown family.
Bond died in 2017 and the second film was dedicated to him.
