ISLAMABAD: Amid the COVID-19 health crisis, dengue has become another major concern for Pakistan, with hospitals in Punjab province, particularly in Lahore, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh snowed in with patients from a viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes to a point where the hospital administrations refusing to admit more patients, local media reported on Sunday.
In hospitals in Punjab, beds for corona patients have been allocated for dengue victims, The News International reported.
Meanwhile, in Islamabad, a massive dengue control campaign has been launched in response to alarming levels of dengue cases.
In the past 24 hours, 98 new cases of dengue have been reported in Islamabad, according to the district health official, of which 73 were found in rural areas and 25 in urban areas, The News International reported. The new cases brought the total number of patients to 1,030.
In rural areas, 698 people have been infected with the dengue virus, while in urban areas, 332 cases have been recorded, the Pakistani publication reported.
