ASUNCION (Reuters) – Paraguay has named former Celta coach Vigo Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao Eduardo Berizzo to the post of director, the Paraguayan Football Association (APF) said on Monday.
Berizzo replaces Juan Carlos Osorio, who resigned last week after five unfortunate months in which he led the South American landlocked country in a single match.
"The negotiations were completed with Eduardo Berizzo Magnolo, a 49-year-old Argentine national, who will be the new coach," said the APF.
Berizzo, who has been the badistant of Jorge Sampaoli with Chile and who has enjoyed success at the Chilean side O. Higgins, will reveal his staff members behind the scenes and will be formally presented to the media on Friday. he added.
Berizzo's first matches will be in charge next month, when Paraguay take on Peru in the friendly on 22nd in New Jersey and Mexico in Santa Clara four days later.
His first competitive matches will be held at Copa America, which will start in Brazil in June.
