In addition, the sanitation and pollution tax is imposed on certain petroleum products in order to provide funds to support programs and projects aimed at improving air quality and to provide sustainable funding for collection, treatment and disposal of liquid and solid waste.

The proceeds of the sanitation and pollution tax will be used to improve air quality in urban areas, fight pollution and design, build, re-engineer and maintain waste disposal and treatment plants, including landfills and medical and other specialized waste treatment facilities.

The proceeds of the tax are also to be used for the construction of sanitation facilities in order to accelerate the elimination of open defecation and to support the fumigation of public spaces, schools, health centers and steps.

For the tax for the recovery of the financial sector, the report indicates that the government initiated reforms in the banking sector from August 2017 to December 2018, with the aim of cleaning up the financial sector, strengthening resilience and promoting security, soundness and stability of the financial system to support Ghana’s economic growth agenda.
