To this end, a professor, Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye, formed a working group on the Parliamentary Insurance Commission to gather the views of professional organizations and civil society serving on the proposed committee.

Last Thursday, the working group organized a forum in Accra to collect contributions from the Ghana Lawyers Association (GBA), the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and the Press corps. Parliamentary Committee (PPC). He was sponsored by Star Ghana.

Mr. Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, chair of the working group and leader of the Whip by majority, said that the Chair wanted this committee to review the badurances given in Parliament, not by ministers of state or ministers. representatives of the Government, but by representatives of Parliament. in Parliament.

For example, he said, a bill should not stay for more than three months before a committee.

"So if for some reason they are not able to produce a report and submit it, they have to come back to Parliament and ask for an extension, nobody does it," he said.

Mr. Ameyaw-Cheremeh said that if the President had given a directive, it should be followed by a review of the matter and the presentation of the report in time.

He added that the committee would remind leaders and other members of the need to do the work the speaker told them to do.

GJA President Affail Monney suggested that MPs inform their constituents about their work.

He called for improving the monitoring mechanism of the government's insurance commission.

Monney urged MPs to avoid destructive criticism and to enhance constructive criticism.

CPP Dean Nana Agyeman Birikorang said the CPP supports the idea of ​​establishing the Parliamentary Insurance Committee as it would facilitate the work of Parliament.

He suggested that the committee periodically inform the House of the work of Parliament's committees.

Nana Agyeman Birikorang recommended that the Speaker of Parliament set up an ad hoc committee to reward an outstanding MP every year to encourage MPs to do more research.
