Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central
For the second day, Parliament did not approve the Committee's recommendations of privileges according to which Assin Central legislator, Kennedy Agyapong, was to be suspended or reprimanded.
The approval of the Commission's report, which has been pending for about five months now, was scheduled for Tuesday, but was postponed to Wednesday.
Joy News parliamentary correspondent Joseph Opoku Gakpo said the repugnant MP was suspended, which is not true.
The commission's report in July 2018, after completing its investigations of Mr. Agyapong's comments, contained recommendations that the member be sanctioned either by reprimanding him or suspending him for the rest of the session.
The House is supposed to debate and approve the report before adopting it.
Last year, the head bad of the minority, Muntaka Mubarak, asked parliament to take action against Mr. Agyapong for allegedly calling the House of Commons useless in a television interview, a charge denied by the deputy.
Mr. Agyapong responded to a comment from a New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti regional leader on Anas' presentation.
He claimed that Muntaka Mubarak's claim was based on comments taken out of context.
Kennedy Agyapong had called Muntaka Mubarak dumb for referring him to the Parliamentary Privilege Committee for alleged insult.
Mr. Mubarak insisted that the conduct of the member for Assin Central was inappropriate for a member of the legislature.
After being questioned at committee meetings, Mr. Agyapong apologized for making public contempt about the legislature.
But the Committee stated: "He carefully examined the matter in light of the totality of the evidence gathered and in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, the Standing Orders and other relevant legislation, and concluded that the Hon. A member of Assin's central constituency, Mr. Ken Ohene Agyapong is in fact an insult to Parliament for his statements that "Parliament is cheap" and "Parliament is useless". "
According to the reporter, during the debate on Tuesday, some MPs told the speaker that they needed to receive a copy of the commission report before they could participate actively.
However, on Wednesday, copies of the report were redistributed to members, but the issue that was again the subject of debate was never discussed.
Members of the minority, the journalist added, drew the speaker's attention to call the report, but they were ignored.
The majority then explained to Joy News that the report would be discussed and approved on Thursday.
