Parts of Accra were inundated after a downpour on Thursday, September 2.

The five-hour heavy rains hampered vehicular traffic on the Shiashie-Legon section of the Legon-Madina highway, the Haatso section, UPSA and parts of the capital.

Many commuters were stuck in traffic for hours. In Shiashie, some drivers abandoned their cars in the flood because they cannot cross.

Others cautiously made their way through the flood that covered most of the road in Okponglo.

Some Ghanaians have taken to social media to share the flood situation in their areas.

Videos on social media show that some private and commercial vehicles were trapped in the waters that flooded some roads, leaving passengers in dire straits.

The situation is no different in market centers and residential houses, as the occupants have also been trapped.

This recurring phenomenon is blamed on the drains that have engulfed the city with piles of garbage blocking the free flow of water.
