Pastor and wife reportedly killed by unknown assailant in Ayitikope

Mr. Augustine Gbedema and his wife Madame Comfort Gbedema, the co-founders and leaders of the international church Harmony with Jesus Christ Ministry in Ayitikope in Akatsi South Municipality were reportedly killed by unknown assailants.

The incident happened on Saturday July 24.

Mr. George Gbedema, one of the church elders said News from modern Ghana that after church services on Sunday July 17, 2021, the couples were not seen all week.

He said they were away for Tuesday and Friday night services which was very unusual.

According to him, some members of the church decided to visit the couples in their house on Saturday, July 24 in the morning to find their decomposed bodies in their room.

Checks reveal a few machete wounds on the necks of the half-naked husband and wife.

The couples live alone in a house located a few meters from the main town.

The case has since been reported to South Akatsi Police Command for investigation.

The bodies of the deceased were deposited in the Akatsi Dagbi mortuary pending the autopsy.

The information collected by Modern Ghana News reveals that Mr. Gbedema was a former member of the Ghana Cocoa Board who retired about ten years ago.

Mr. Peter Defor, a member of the church said there has been no instance of the pastor having a grudge with anyone since the church was established about ten years ago.

“I cannot say at this time that the suspected killers have seized their property,” said Defor.

He calls on the Akatsi police to speed up investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Mr. Mawulolo Atsah, journalist working for the Ghana Broadcasting Cooperation (GBC) and also brother of the late Mrs. Comfort Gbedemah, expressed his concern over this incident.

“Am shocked by the incident, how could my sister and my husband have been killed like this?” ” he cried.

Mr. Jerry Etsey Agbo, the member of the Assembly of the electoral zone of Gefia-Ayitikope declared Modern Ghana News that security is poor in the region.

According to him, a theft incident occurred in the same village where the owner of Makafui Lottery was shot in the leg by armed robbers two months ago. “We still rely on the police to conduct their investigations,” he said.

Mr. Agbo added that residents of Ayitikope and the surrounding area live in fear due to security loopholes in the area.
