Patient with "Ebola-like symptoms" in Kenya

A woman with symptoms "similar to those with Ebola patients" is currently being treated in an isolation unit of a hospital in western Kenya, says a statement from the government of Kenya. Kericho County.

The staff took all necessary precautions and ensured that "the contact between the patient and other people is minimal" at the consultation hospital of Kericho County, the statement added.

Blood samples have been taken and the results are expected within the next 24 hours.

The authorities quickly rebadured the public that all measures are being taken to ensure their safety and pointed out that Ebola-like symptoms may be present in several other conditions.

An Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has killed more than 1,400 people. Last week, two people died of the disease in neighboring Uganda, DR Congo and Kenya.

Health officials in Kericho County said the patient had come from Malaba, which lies on the border with Uganda, reported Anne Soy of the BBC.

No cases have been reported near Malaba, near eastern Uganda. The epidemic in Uganda has occurred in the west of the country.
