Unilever CEO Paul Polman will retire at the end of this year, after nearly 10 years of leading business, the company said Thursday.
Alan Polman will be replaced by Alan Jope, 54, current head of the beauty and personal care division of the company. Jope, a Scottish national, joined the company as a graduate trainee in 1985.
Polman's reputation had caused a stir at the beginning of the year by announcing for the first time that the company would consolidate its headquarters in Rotterdam, but it subsequently reversed this decision because of the objections of the shareholders.
Polman will remain attached to the company for the first six months of 2019 to ensure a smooth transition.
