Windows IT management company PDQ.com announced the acquisition of SimpleMDM, an Apple device management company that uses an intuitive cloud interface. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition moves PDQ.com into new territory: Mac and iOS software management. With its existing capabilities focused only on Windows, the agreement positions PDQ.com to become a complete and efficient systems administration solution.
Keeping machines up to date is crucial for their optimal performance. Inventories should be kept in parallel with the applications deployed by enterprises, the version upgrades they perform, and the patches they manage. In addition, an update should be reflected on all machines, regardless of their number. PDQ.com, before acquiring SimpleMDM, could only do this for Windows.
SimpleMDM covers the entire spectrum of Apple systems management. Device enrollment and account setup is hassle-free, the company says, promising that a support engineer is always available within 30 minutes.
Added management of Apple devices via acquisition
PDQ.com already has a strategy in place on how to use the capabilities of SimpleMDM. According to CEO Dan Cook, the combination of these two entities will enhance PDQ’s existing relationships with system administrators to keep “all types of devices healthy and up to date.” The entire SimpleMDM ecosystem, including its employees, customers and products, will be part of PDQ. Such a holistic takeover, Cook said, will accelerate the growth of PDQ.com.
PDQ’s Windows software deployment and inventory reporting capabilities have two popular software management platforms that it runs for approximately 19,000 organizations: PDQ Deploy and PDQ Inventory. PDQ’s solutions cover the entire spectrum of enterprise application configuration and work equally well with startups and multinational companies.
Organizations that use PDQ’s services to keep their machines up to date include the University of Utah, NASA, Coca-Cola, BMW, HBO, 3M, and others. PDQ aims to make the management of its solutions as convenient as possible; users can download predefined packages, target specific machines, and deploy them according to their schedule.
SimpleMDM’s Apple Device Management works much like PDQ.com’s on Windows; the only difference is that it only works for Apple devices. The software works with the same efficiency, according to SimpleMDM, regardless of the number of devices deployed.
SimpleMDM’s 3,000 customer base targets macOS, tvOS, and iOS devices. Its best-known clients are Rosetta Stone, Rip Curl, FedEx, Simplehuman, Deloitte, Discovery and Weyerhaeuser.
