Power outages affect several parts of the country
Eight regions are expected to be affected by the first official load shedding, as Energy Distribution Services (PDS) has released a timetable for their power rationing.
The decision to begin publication of the calendar was made at a meeting between the PDS, the Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Public Utilities and Regulatory Commission (PURC) on Thursday.
It was after observers like the African Center for Energy Policy (ACEP) urged the state to recognize that there were generation issues and to publish a load shed schedule for Ghanaians to plan.
It was feared that the country was about to return to the era of irregular electricity supply that marked the peak of the energy crisis in Ghana about five years ago.
In a statement, PDS noted that "as the generation gap varies, PDS can review the outages according to the upstream situation. [and some] zones may fail. "
He also pointed out that today's failures result from the closure of the Atuabo Gbad processing plant.
