The government denied alleging that it had waived certain terms and conditions of the initial agreement with Power Compact II to promote energy distribution services (PDS).
Sekondi MP Andrew Egyapa Mercer said the charges were unfounded because the government had come only to implement what had already been approved by Parliament.
Referring to parts of the agreement, he said: "In approving the contract, Parliament itself gave power to the parties to waive, modify or modify some of the preconditions.
"The government has not, has not departed from the initial pact as concluded by the NDC," he said in respond to Yapei / Kusawgu MP John Jinapor at JoyNews News Analysis Newsfile Saturday.
Mr Jinpaor said that if the government had allowed the deal to go through the required processes, the fraud detected several months after the dealership agreement would not have occurred.
But Mr. Mercer explained that the only change the government made when it took office in 2017 was the percentage of local and foreign participation.
"What the government has changed is the percentage of participation compared to foreigners and Ghanaians, from 80 to 20% approved by the NDC at 49-51.
"The reasoning was simple: turning an ECG was not rocket science. Anyway, if there is any benefit, why do not we allow Ghanaians to have more. So for me, it was a good decision and they had to renegotiate for this change to be approved, "he added.
PDS has taken over some of the badets and activities of the GEC, including the distribution of electricity service in all GEC operational areas in Ghana.
The new arrangement is expected to reduce distribution losses to a minimum, while providing improved electricity services to Ghanaians.
However, the government announced Wednesday evening without ceremony that the PDS the right to distribute power has been suspended.
"The decision follows the detection of substantive and substantial breaches of PDS's obligations in the provision of payment guarantees (demand guarantees) for transactions discovered during subsequent audits," said a government.
The publication further revealed that the Ghana Electricity Company had been tasked with performing the tasks of the PDS until it was suspended. All PDS accounts have also been frozen.
