Ambbadador of the United States to Ghana, badisted by Gizaa Gundaa's chief to cut the band
About 600 women engaged in collecting shea nuts in Gizaa Gundaa, Kumbungu District, North Region, were provided with a treatment center and a warehouse allowing them to increase their production and their income.
Women used traditional heavy methods of processing raw shea butter into butter, which often resulted in low production and income.
The new facility was built by Presbyterian Agricultural Services, in partnership with the Government, the Global Shea Alliance (GSA), Perfectly Posh and Savanna Fruits with the support of the US Government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Importance
The US Ambbadador to Ghana, Stephanie S. Sullivan, who inaugurated the facility last Thursday, said it was one of 34 processing centers and warehouses that USAID and GSA had launched. with cooperatives in the country in the last three years.
She said that once the project is completed, it should benefit about 30,000 women involved in collecting and processing shea in beneficiary communities.
According to Ms. Sullivan, this initiative also aimed to support President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's vision of promoting "Ghana Beyond Aid" through a sustainable partnership between Ghanaian and US companies and entrepreneurs.
The ambbadador also expressed the hope that this facility would contribute to the development of the shea industry in the region to improve women's well-being, as she also promised that the United States would continue to support Ghana.
Appreciation
Alhaji Issahaku Alhbadan, chief director of the Regional Coordinating Council for the North of the country (RCC), thanked the US government for its support for the promotion of the shea industry, which he said a livelihood for most women in the northern part of the country.
On behalf of her colleagues, Yurilim Women's Shea Cooperative President Zainabu Abdulai also thanked the United States and its partners for providing the center.
