The Ghana Association of People with Albinism (GAPA) presented a petition on Thursday, June 13, 2019 to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) calling for an end to discrimination against people with albinism.

The petition was presented at the International Day of Awareness Awareness Day celebration organized by Engage Now Africa (ENA), a non-governmental organization.

ENA defends the rights of people with albinism.

Newton K. Katseku, the executive director of GAPA, who presented the petition, appealed to the CHRAJ to enforce the rights of people with albinism.

"The rights of people with albinism have been violated for a long time and it is time for us to know our rights and for others to know that our rights are enshrined in the Constitution", he said.

He called on stakeholders to support advocacy for the fight against discrimination and violation of the rights of albinos.

Francis Yaw Ansah, director of education at ENA, said the mission of the NGO was to create an inclusive society without discrimination, stigma and total elimination of the myths and misconceptions badociated with l & # 39; albinism.

"Our goal is to promote and protect the human rights of people with albinism in order to create hope, create opportunities and increase self-confidence", he said.

He revealed that the ENA had provided people with albinism with an anti-sun lotion, protective clothing such as hats, long sleeves and sunglbades, to protect their bodies from the elements.

Ansah asked people with albinism to defend their rights and fight for their rightful place in society.
