Bekasi. At least 50 people with severe mental illness were vaccinated against Covid-19 in Bekasi on Wednesday. They received the first injections of the AstraZeneca vaccine with permission from their families.
The campaign was organized by the humanitarian group Jamrud Biru Foundation, which provided its health center in the eastern suburbs of Jakarta as a vaccination site. Each participant had to undergo a medical examination before receiving the injection.
The foundation said the hardest part of this program is getting permission from the families of the patients. Many refused to participate, citing concerns about the safety of the vaccine
“Families do not allow it because they fear there will be negative effects,” said foundation spokesperson Ardy.
“On the other hand, the foundation does not dare to make a decision because only families know if they have underlying conditions,” he added.
The program lasted for three days with the second jab scheduled for the next three months depending on vaccine availability.
