Pep Guardiola thinks the goal difference could decide the title race in the Premier League

According to Pep Guardiola, the competition at the top of the Premier League is so fierce that the title should be awarded on the last day of the season and could even be reduced to the goal difference.

Guardiola's Manchester City is currently second in the standings, three points behind Liverpool, but will outscore his rivals in goal difference if they get a win at Everton on Wednesday.

Champions City was reinstated as the bookmakers' title favorite after Liverpool dropped to two draws in their last two games, but Guardiola believes Jurgen Klopp's team will push him to the limit.

He said: "The first message is to win the match and the second is as follows: if you can score points, and if you can avoid conceding, do it, because you could possibly win the Premier League at the goal difference.

"Even if we are not going to tell the guys today, we have to win 25-0 – I never say that – we have to win the match first and then, on the second try [to score]because it can happen [winning the title on goal difference].

"I'm sure the winner will be [decided by] the last game or the last two. I'm sure of that. "

You realize now that we can do something special.

"But we are not, for the moment, in this position because this month is terrible, because every game is a final."
