Pet Bottle Recycling Facilities Introduced in Ghana | Technology

Zoomlion Ghana Limited, one of the leading waste management companies in West Africa, has unveiled a state-of-the-art, versatile and technology-driven waste recovery park in the capital Accra.

The facility, designed to serve as a waste recovery center, will transform all other waste into usable raw materials or finished products for human use.

The center has the ability to grind and turn PET bottles into pellets that would be used by a sister company, Universal Plastic Product Recycling Limited (UPPR), to produce garbage cans and garbage bags for distribution to households and businesses. for the collection, recycling and recovery of waste. plastics in general, organic composting, tire recycling, metals, wood and glbad, among others.

The center will recycle more than 90% of all types of waste and add value to make it a resource that will significantly reduce imports of chemical fertilizers and other plastic products and will introduce organic compost to bring back Ghana to the production and consumption of organic food.

At a ceremony in Accra that drew many visitors, the chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies and owner of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Joseph Siaw Agyepong, expressed his firm willingness to help President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo -Addo and the government in this regard. to realize his vision of an Accra cleaner and largely from Ghana.

Upon his inauguration, the President visited two of his facilities (Agyepong), namely the Accra Composting and Recycling Plant (ACARP) and the Teshie Waste Transfer Station, and encouraged him to to take up all the challenges and work harder. This, he said, was the motivation that drove the waste contractor to spend sleepless nights identifying solution-oriented technologies that help the president realize his vision.

As part of his commitment to support the president's program, he said that sixteen such facilities had been purchased to replicate the technology in all regional capitals.

Dr. Agyepong badured that by the end of August this year, similar facilities will be rapidly commissioned in the cities of Takoradi, Kumasi and Tamale. The facility has the capacity to handle 400 tons of waste per day, 2,000 tons per week and 8,000 per month.

In a speech read by the Minister of Business Development, Alhaji Ibrahim Awal, Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President congratulated Zoomlion and its executive chairman, Joseph Siaw Agyepong, for his commitment to increasing the number of people in the world. waste management infrastructure in the country. the country. He said the government alone can not manage infrastructure development and job creation. Professor Kwabena Frimpong Biateng, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI) said Zoomlion's exemplary position on waste management in Ghana was a perfect example of the power of the public sector to straighten out savings. He badured that his ministry would continue streamlining its strategic policies so that the private sector could more easily prosper and thus contribute to the creation of the jobs needed by the people of Ghana.

He said the gap in development and employment in Ghana was a technology gap and his department was therefore particularly happy that Zoomlion is using technology to create jobs for Ghanaians.

He suggested that the plastics management policy was at the firm level for review and approval. When fully operational, the policy will streamline the way producers and consumers of plastic products operate and waste managers.
