Star warsPeter Mayhew, emblematic actor of Chewbacca, died at the age of 74 years.
The family of the actor made a statement on Twitter at the end of Thursday, May 2, announcing that he had unfortunately died earlier in the week.
"The family of Peter Mayhew, with deep love and deep sadness, has the regret to share the news of Peter's death," reads in his official account. "He left us on the evening of April 30, 2019 with his family by his side in his North Texas home."
Mayhew brought Chewbacca to life in the original of director George Lucas Star wars movie New hope in 1977, the Wookiee became a beloved mascot of the franchise.

As the health of the actor declined, he shared the role with the youngest Joonas Suotamo for 2015 the force awakens and then entrusted the Chewie game entirely to Suotamo for future films.
