The upcoming Heroes Reborn one-shot Peter Parker, The Amazing Shutterbug gives Marvel’s Spider-Man a similar makeover to DC’s Jimmy Olsen.
Peter Parker is getting a Jimmy Olsen redesign as part of Marvel Comics’ upcoming Heroes Reborn event.
Heroes Reborn – not to be confused with Marvel’s 1990’s event of the same name – takes place in an alternate reality where most of Marvel’s fan-favorite characters are very different, if they exist at all. There are no Avengers in this world, with the title of “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes” belonging to the Supreme Squadron of America.
In addition to the main Hero Reborn series, there will be a number of linked one-shots, including the one from May Heroes Reborn: Peter Parker, the incredible Shutterbug # 1 by writer Marc Bernardin and artist Rafael De Latorre. The comic takes Peter back to his roots as a photographer for the Daily Bugle – a job he uses to have fun with his favorite superhero, Hyperion. With that in mind, this version of Peter is very reminiscent of Jimmy Olsen of DC Comics, a Daily Planet photographer who greatly admires Superman. This comparison is particularly apt, given that Hyperion was originally created as a pastiche of the Man of Steel.
