Petrol increasing the running costs of the car

High fuel prices have inflated the weekly cost of owning a new car, said a car group.

According to the Royal Automobile Association 's annual survey, the average weekly cost in 2019 is about 228 dollars, up from 218 dollars last year.

The survey is based on expenses such as fuel, maintenance, depreciation, registration, insurance and refunds over a five-year holding period.

RAA Senior Director, Mark Borlace, said that rising average fuel prices had been a major factor in increasing the cost of owning a car.

But he added that depreciation remains the main problem for car buyers.

"Depreciation is the biggest budget loss and tends to become painfully obvious when motorists realize how much they will get for their rework car compared to its new price," said Mr. Borlace.

The RAA study found that Kia Picanto was the new cheapest car to buy and operate at $ 111.49 a week.

This compares to $ 562.70 for the Tesla Model S electric car, despite lower fuel costs.
