Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde reportedly discussed Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Rakitic's futures contracts in a three-hour meeting with club leaders on Tuesday.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the manager has long discussed the technical direction of the Catalan giants, in the perspective of a huge transfer window.

Despite their win in La Liga, their Champions League semifinals and their Copa del Rey finals put a damper on the campaign.

This has led to requests for changes for the summer to refresh their aging team with Coutinho, a big money flop, and Rakitic, 31, linked to outings.

Both players sparked the interest of the Premier League and Manchester United was presented as a possible destination – and the club decided to listen to the offers of both players.

Valverde still believes that Rakitic has a role to play and is not ready to abandon Coutinho despite his disappointing campaign.

But he is ready to listen to what the leaders want, as he did last year when Arthur and Arturo Vidal were signed although they were not his personal priorities.

Ivan Rakitic has also been linked to Man Utd

Valverde would have understood the interest of selling players at competitive prices and would be willing to see how things would go during the rest of the transfer window.

They are not willing to let either player go cheap, but if United or other interested parties increase their interest and are willing to respect their ratings, Valverde will not stop them from leaving.
