The Employment and Career Fair 2021 organized by the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has ended successfully.
The two-day event, from Thursday September 9 to Friday September 10, saw more than a thousand young people come to the Accra International Conference Center to interact with employers for vacancies.
Ahead of the event, YEA Managing Director Justin Kodua Frimpong speaking on Asempa FM’s show Ekosii Sen noted that around 5,000 people are expected for the event.
About 70 companies registered for the fair to offer instant jobs to applicants.
Speaking to JoyNews, the director of corporate affairs of the Youth Employment Agency, Emmanuel Kwesi Afriyie, noted that the employment center is in three parts.
The first being an online platform, www.yeajobcentre.gov.gh, allows you to apply virtually. The second, which he described as the walk-in center, allows people to visit the respective YEA offices to sort out employment issues.
The third career counseling session, he said, helps solve the problems of overcrowded young people with higher expectations and demanding high wages.
“It is a conscious effort to be able to reorient our young people who are arriving. You don’t start and get a mansion all at once. You don’t start and drive a four-wheeler at the same time. You don’t start and get 15,000 GHC all at once, it doesn’t work. So what we are doing is reorienting the young people of today to make them understand that there is always a starting point.
He lamented the lack of interest shown by participants in small businesses (SMEs).
“We have a lot of SMEs here looking for people, but we see some missing out. “
Applicants went through the registration process and were separated based on their professional interests.
Although social distancing was not observed due to the number of people in attendance, all of the candidates present were wearing their face masks.
