The government has purchased 275 ambulances expected to arrive by the end of April 2019.
Ambulances will be shared with all constituencies in Ghana.
Ghana currently has fewer than 60 ambulances serving approximately 30 million Ghanaians.
Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, Executive Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), revealed it in an interview with Graphic in Accra last Saturday.
He did not mention the total cost of the vehicles, but said: "These are funded from the million dollars per riding that the president promised during his election campaign in view of the 2016 general election" .
He added that a team of experts had already badessed the quality of the ambulances and certified them to the required specifications.
According to Dr. Nsiah-Asare, the government's decision to purchase specialty vehicles was part of a broader effort to transform the health sector to facilitate the effective delivery of health care in the country.
This will relieve a lot of ridings that over the years have called for the government to provide ambulances at their health center.
The government plans to improve the health sector after recently signing an agreement with Zipline, which provides for the use of drones to provide medical support.
