The drains located along the Kwame Nkrumah interchange on the Circle-Kaneshie portion of the Ring Road are covered with sand and plastic waste.
Some of them have also been overgrown with weeds, while there seems to be no plan to reduce them because the rains are here.
The situation around the terminal of the state transport company, Mechanical Lloyd and Stallion, could be described as an impending disaster.
However, another pipeline receiving water from the southern industrial zone, along with a rainwater pipeline from the Awudome Estate in front of the Circle branch of the public insurance company, is also smothered.
Drains drained in major cities across the country have been identified as critical contributors to persistent floods that often result in deaths.
Unfortunately, we have not yet entered the rainy season, but the recent rains in Accra and at least 14 deaths in seven days prompted the government to announce its intention to flush the Odaw River to avoid flooding.
The government intervention, as seen around the Obetsebi-Lamptey circle, suggests that the focus is only on large drains, as no such exercise exists in small areas or means of drains likely to cause devastating floods in case of rain.
