HEARTBROKEN Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang admits to having shunned a WEEK after escaping the football of the Champions League.
The Arsenal striker, worth 60 million pounds, had a sensational first full season in England, scoring 31 times in all competitions, including 22 in the Premier League.
However, he was as frustrated as anyone to know that it counted for nothing as the Gunners finished fifth in the Premier League and were then beaten 4-1 by Chelsea in the Europa League final in Baku.
Despite the repeated success of manager Unai Emery in the competition, the Gunners will once again burst onto the treadmill of the Europa League this season.
When asked if the Baku debacle was still in his head while he had flown for his summer vacation, the honest Aubameyang replied, "Yes , of course.
"For a week, I've been really disappointed, but what can you do now? It's over.
"We have to start a new season and, of course, not everyone is happy with the outcome of the Europa League final, but we have to look to the future because life is not over.
"We must go ahead and achieve our goals in this new season."
Gabon not qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, Aubameyang had a rare summer and spent exploring the world.
The 30-year-old said: "I was on vacation everywhere. I was in Milan first, then in Miami and Bahamas – that was good!
"I will not say I'm not happy to be back, but the holidays have been great.
"I work a lot every summer because I know it's important to stay fit, and when I get back, it's easier for me to pre-season if I'm in good shape.
"Sometimes I play games with my friends and I try to run and do a lot of things to stay in shape."
Sunday, he will face the Lyonnais at the annual cup of the Emirates, in order to end the drought that scored goals against the French giants, the former club Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette.
And as Aubameyang played for two years with the local rival, Saint-Etienne, there were many jokes in the locker room with his partner.
Aubameyang said, "It's a big rivalry. It's hard!
"Laca and I always talk about it in the locker room because we obviously played against each other and it was always a big fight when it was the derby.
"But we all know what a derby means. It's a big game, a good rivalry.
"I have never won against them! I remember the goal I scored, though. It was in the League Cup (October 2011) and it was the only one I scored against Lyon, but it was really a very good feeling.
"It's always good to play at Emirates, so it will be great to be back in the stadium and see our fans there. It will be a good match against good players and it is always good to play big games in the pre-season. "
Aubameyang was speaking in the program of the day of the Emirates Cup – a 'Double Edition' covering both matches on a historic day for the club.
