Choosing a place to retire boils down to a number of factors.

Weather and climate conditions, the pension tax, access to health care, the cost of living and the affordability of housing must be taken into account. But depending on how much you save for retirement, it may be the most important thing to check. Houses are getting more and more expensive – the median value of the house is currently $ 226,300, according to Zillow.

But that does not mean that more affordable homes do not exist. We have teamed up with Zillow to find some of the most affordable places for retirement, where the median value of the house is lower than the average cost of a new car (and therefore to the current value of the car) – about $ 37,000, according to Kelley Blue Book. Some of these cities are located in the Carolinas, but most are scattered throughout the Midwest.

Below, take a look at places where you can retire to the United States for less than the cost of a new car.
