Plans are underway to build the world's first 360-degree rooftop infinity pool over a skyscraper in London.
The UK-based swimming pool manufacturer Compbad Pools has unveiled an architectural concept for Infinity London, a 600,000-liter pool designed to dominate a 55-story hotel in the capital. The pool would give visitors the feeling of floating above the city, making it the ultimate pool overlooking London. Compbad Pools describes this structure as "the only building in the world to incorporate a 360 degree infinity pool".
The pool will be molded acrylic rather than glbad and will feature transparent walls and floors. Guests will access the pool via a spiral staircase that turns and rises in the water. In order for the pool to stay at the right temperature and the water does not overflow into the street, the pool will be connected to a computer-controlled building management system.
"The inspiration for the pool came from my need to create something truly spectacular and revolutionary in the world of pool design," Alex Kemsley, designer and pool technical director for Compbad Pool, told Lonely Planet. Kemsley and his team of designers plan to equip the pool with lights that glow and change color as the sun goes down, giving the building the look of a "torch to the jewels".
Compbad Pools announced that it would have an international five-star hotel on the upper floors and that the rooftop pool would be used by its customers. If everything goes as planned and if partners and contractors are confirmed, construction work could begin in 2020. First, the company needs to find a way to transport 600,000 liters of water. water at the top of a 55-storey building.
