Plant-Based Diet Beats Mediterranean On Cholesterol Control, Study Finds

A low-fat plant-based diet came out on top over the Mediterranean in a study observing weight and cholesterol results.

The essay featured in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition. It took 62 “overweight” participants and assigned them one of two diets over four months.

Positive plant results

It measured body weight, plasma lipids, blood pressure and body composition. Additionally, the study looked at insulin resistance.

The results showed that dieters lost almost 4 kg more body fat on the vegan diet. They also had a drop in visceral fat, which is the fat surrounding the internal organs.
