Playback: First session of the 8th legislature

Ghana’s 8th Legislature first sat after the chaos that characterized the election of the seventh Speaker of the House on January 7, 2021.

Before the session, some NPP deputies stormed the chamber around 4 a.m. to sit to the right of the Speaker so they could claim majority status.

This follows a similar action taken by NDC members on the eve of the House’s inauguration.

Among the other questions to be resolved by the House is the question of who forms the majority and the minority of the House.
