Poland revealed that it had registered 35,143 new cases of coronavirus on Friday, marking the third daily record for new cases in as many days.

The data comes from the Polish Ministry of Health which revealed that 443 more deaths were reported, bringing the total number of deaths to 51,305.

Around 27,800 people are currently being treated for Covid-19 in Polish hospitals and 2,730 need to use ventilators.

The number of active coronavirus cases is approaching 400,000. For much of January and February, the figure hovered around 200,000.

In view of the increase in the number of new cases, Poland has decided to introduce new restrictions on coronaviruses as of

Saturday. The number of people who can visit stores or churches has been reduced, while large furniture and hardware stores have been ordered to close.

Hairdressing and beauty salons will be closed, as will daycares and kindergartens. In the latter case, there will be exceptions for the children of physicians and those of uniformed services.

The new measures will last until April 9. Hotels, swimming pools, gymnasiums and outdoor sports facilities were already closed to the public. Schools only offer distance learning.
