A 32-year-old woman was killed after pbading a driver in Garnerville, NY, driving a family of eight, police said.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the Haverstraw Police Department said the suspect had been intentionally made in the family, who were gathered in front of a local 7-Eleven.
Police said the driver, identified by Jason Sanchez, brought his car into the family after his father asked Sanchez not to blow cigarette smoke near his children. The police told Sanchez, after hitting them once, to back off and drive his car back into the family.
When the suspect was confronted at the scene by agents of the intervention, he brandished a knife, said the police. Sanchez did not want to give up the knife. He was "ordered, subjected and detained without further incident", according to the police.
After the accident, the family was taken to the local hospital where the mother died. Later, the father, 35, and three of the children were taken to Westchester Medical Center for serious but life-threatening injuries. The injuries of the remaining children were treated at a local hospital.
A GoFundMe has been set up for the family to cover funeral expenses and medical expenses. At the time of its publication, the fundraising had raised nearly $ 10,000 from its target of $ 20,000.
