The Ghana Police Service has said it will not back down on its efforts to arrest people who flout covid-19 protocols designed to curb the spread of the disease.
There have been more arrests of people not following protocols, especially those refusing to wear nasal masks which the Accra Divisional Command led by Chief Superintendent John Osei-Bonsu arrested 67 people on Tuesday for raping some of the protocols.
In a briefing at Ghana’s news agency in Accra on Wednesday, Deputy Superintendent of Police Efia Tenge, chief of the public affairs unit at Accra Regional Command, said that in all, 344 people had been arrested to date.
The arrests were made throughout the area of the ministries, Bukom, Arena, Tudu, Okaishie, Baatsona, Teshie, Nima, Madina and Tesano Amasaman for not wearing masks.
She gave the breakdown that 230 were male while 114 were female.
DSP Tenge said 247 people were arrested on Wednesday alone and the rest on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, police have extended outreach and general education to truck fleets to educate motorists, including the need to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.
She said drivers and their companions were asked to make sure all passengers wore masks before boarding their vehicle.
Ms Tenge said those who were already in the vehicles and did not have masks were made to obtain one by law enforcement before continuing their journey.
She called on the population to abide by protocols established by the government and the Ghana Health Service to save lives.
