The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has announced that 14 suspects have been arrested in connection with the defiling of a 13-year-old girl in Gomoa Adzintem in the central region.
On Friday evening, four men believed to be Fulani shepherds allegedly gang-raped the teenager and also killed his father.
With the news being widely disseminated, the Ghana Police Service deployed a group of Formed Police Unit (FPU) officers to assist with investigations.
Subsequently, the FPU, in conjunction with the Central East Regional Command, arrested 14 suspects following preliminary investigations.
“14 shepherds were arrested during a special police operation carried out by the former police unit (FPU) with staff from the Center-East regional command as part of a manhunt for suspected shepherds who allegedly defiled a 13-year-old teenager in Gomoa Adzintem in the central region, ”the Ghana police service said in a press release.
The Ghana Police Service statement also reveals that the special operation recovered 2 single barrel rifles and 2 shotguns, as well as 49 AA ammunition.
The arrested suspects are currently in custody and are assisting the police in the investigation of the taint.
