The Accra Regional Police Command arrested 52 suspected criminals during a dawn sneak peek in the metropolis ahead of the Easter festivities.

He also seized 44 motorcycles in a bid to fight crime, especially for the season.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ms Effia Tenge, head of the command’s public affairs unit, told the Ghanaian news agency.

She said the four-hour operation, which was part of efforts to tackle violent crime ahead of the Easter break, started with the East Legon District Police Command.

“The affected areas included Kotobabi Wembley, the Neoplan station at Nkrumah Circle and Adabraka Sahara,” she listed.

“The operation which began with the District of East Legon on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 arrested thirty-one (31) motorcycles for various offenses such as riding without a license, certificate of good riding, insurance and other offenses.”

She said the next day April 2021, staff were recruited into the Accra regional operation for a similar exercise, where they raided criminal hideouts and caused the arrest of 52 suspects.

Ms Tenge said 17 cell phones suspected of having been stolen were recovered from some of the suspects.

The police operation, she explained, also targeted and impounded 13 motorcycles, unregistered, those without proper papers and flouting the highway code with impunity.

The suspects were arrested for further investigation and police action.
