The Ghana Police Service arrested an armed gang member behind the robbery attacks in parts of the Greater Accra region last week.

Four robberies in broad daylight were recorded in various districts of the capital. In one case, the thieves opened fire, leaving a passerby with gunshot wounds.

The thieves in the separate incidents took away huge sums of money.

Speaking on JoyNews’ news program, Newsfile Saturday, Police Acting Director of Public Affairs ACP Kwasi Ofori said they were in the process of establishing the identities of the rest of the gang.

He said his outfit has put an “eagle eye” on the gang and is gradually approaching the robbers to ensure security in the capital.

“Their [robbers] way of doing things have been properly established within our intelligence system, and we are using all available means to obtain them.

“We have also distributed files to our operational teams to make sure we get them, and we coordinate these operations from the national level to the regional level through the divisions, and we can see that this coordination is working very well.

“Even in one of the theft cases you mentioned, we made an arrest and this person is under serious questioning. In the next few days, that could tell us what we’re going to do, ”he told host Samson Lardy Anyenini.

ACP Ofori added that the police have reviewed their operational strategies to increase visibility in the economic centers of Accra.

“Massive deployment in strategic areas, including economic areas, is under consideration. We will also make sure to strengthen our intelligence efforts, our patrols, by targeting these criminals and making sure we get them, ”he said.
