Central Regional Command announced a 5,000 GHS reward for anyone who provides information to help stop armed thieves who attacked an elderly man in Cape Coast on Wednesday afternoon.
The robbers, four in number, today dragged the 73-year-old from a bank to a hardware store on two motorcycles where he would buy building materials.
He was then assaulted and asked to bring his money, but tried not to comply.
One of the angry thieves shot the old man in the leg before his crew stole their money from the injured man and subsequently fled.
As police investigated the case, Irene Oppong, public relations manager of the Central Police Regional Command, revealed that a reward has been reserved for anyone who helps hold the criminals to account.
“We also have 5,000 GH ¢ loot as a reward for anyone providing credible information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators,” the PRO told reporters after the incident.
Irene Oppong added: “Once again, the command wants to assure the general public that there is no reason to be alarmed, that the security situation is good and we have developed a strategy to help us stop the authors.
“Everyone can freely carry out their duty and the assurance is that we will continue to protect because it is the mandate of the Service. “
Currently, the elderly man has been admitted to Ewim Polyclinic in Cape Coast where he is receiving treatment.
