Police award 50,000 GH bounty to gang of thieves

The Ghana Police Service has placed a bounty of GH ₵50,000 on a gang of thieves suspected of being involved in a daylight robbery in the Sampa Valley near Weija in the Greater Accra region today, Friday, September 24, 2021.

The gang of four armed allegedly attacked and stole an unspecified sum of money from a woman in the Sampa Valley near the Weija Barrier in Accra.

Two of the suspected thieves who wielded guns and were on motorcycles accosted a vehicle driven by the victim.

They allegedly opened the rear door of the vehicle and fled with a backpack containing an unspecified sum of money amid warning shots to keep people away.

The victim reportedly went to the bank to withdraw money and it is believed that the thieves who were monitoring her movements pursued her.

They attacked her a few minutes after she drove out of the bank.

The police, in a statement signed by the Acting Director General of the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service, announced a financial award of GH ₵50,000 on information that will lead to the arrest of the gang.

Police said they had instituted security measures to stop gangs of thieves attacking people in the Greater Accra region in recent times.

“We therefore implore the residents to be patient with us regarding the heightened security measures to deal with these thugs,” he said.

He urged public and commercial institutions that intend to withdraw and deposit huge sums of money to exercise caution or contact the police for assistance in such transactions.

He also called on residents to report any suspicious behavior or movement of people via the police emergency numbers 18555, 191, 0302773906 or 0302787373.

“We will never, ever allow these thugs to disturb our peace as a people,” he said.

He commended the public for their continued help and assured that with their support “our communities will remain safe”.
