The catastrophic state of the road has been a major concern for locals
On Friday morning, police fired tear gas in an attempt to disperse protesters at the Dawhenya crossroads, who protested against what they said was a neglect of an essential communication route in the region.
The people of Dawhenya, in the Ningo Prampram district of Greater Accra Region, complained about the poor nature of the road from Dawhenya to Afienya, which was reportedly neglected by successive governments.
The road is easy to connect from Dawhenya to Akosombo Road, but is in poor condition.
On Friday morning, locals organized and blocked the main Aflao road at the Dawhenya junction.
They burned vehicle tires on the road and pushed a container in the middle of the road to block it.
The demonstration resulted in vehicular traffic in the area and the police reacted by firing tear gas to disperse them.
