An investigation was opened on the guards of a 23-year-old disabled man who presented to the hospital and weighed 30 pounds.
When KFOR asked what had prompted the family to take him to the hospital, the man's grandmother replied, "Because he was limping."
According to the police, Juanita Wooten's grandson was admitted to the OR Children's Hospital for "severe malnutrition and flu-like symptoms".
Police say the patient is 23 years old and is fighting for his life, weighing only 30 pounds.
Her grandmother told KFOR that her grandson is about 5 feet tall.
She said that she was watching him every day while his mother was at work.
The 23-year-old is diagnosed with a rare neurological condition that affects the muscles of the face.
Because of this illness, police say he is unable to take care of himself and feed himself.
Police said doctors feared his body was bad enough.
His mother told police that her son was "not on a special diet and had not been to a doctor for four years."
Laboratory tests reveal that the patient "had extremely high sodium levels, which indicates that he did not have enough water" and that he "had sores on his body, which corresponds to a lack of mobility ".
"I did not abuse or mistreat him," said Juanita Wooten. "None of us, but they act as they are."
The police searched the house and took 155 photographs inside and outside the residence.
It is unclear when and if the 23-year-old will be released from the hospital.
