Police are investigating leaked hidden camera footage of a prison guard appearing to kiss an inmate in his Scottish prison cell.
The one-minute video shows a prisoner of HMP Addiewell filmed from behind as the officer enters the cell. The prisoner pushes the door closed and pulls the officer by the arm to kiss him.
The prisoner releases the officer’s arm and the couple appear to speak briefly before the officer leaves the cell.
Prison leaders have called police to investigate the footage, which has reportedly been filmed in recent weeks.
A Scottish Police spokesperson said The independent: “We are aware of the incident and investigations are at an early stage to establish all the circumstances.”
A spokesperson for HMP Addiewell, which is run by private company Sodexo, confirmed the officer no longer works at West Lothian Prison.
“We cannot comment further,” they added.
HMP Addiewell houses around 700 men, including those sentenced and those awaiting trial.
In 2019, inspectors described the prison’s staffing levels as “far from ideal”.
