Police investigate the death of a CEPS recruit following a rigorous exercise

The Volta Regional Police has resumed investigations into the death of a senior recruit of the CEPS

– It is said that the deceased died after an exercise

Police opened investigations to find out what had led to the death of a senior cadet recruited to the Academy of Customs and Excise Prevention Service in Kpetoe in the Volta region.

George Annor, 31, was among the senior cadets who attended the academy for training on March 31, 2019.

He allegedly collapsed and died after being subjected to rigorous arrival formalities. [drills] at the training school.

He was first transported to the Kpetoe Health Center, where he received first aid, then was transferred to the Volta Regional Hospital in Ho.

However, he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital and new injuries were formed on both his knees.

Five other people collapsed during the exercises, which would have required them to bend both knees and move while carrying their luggage.

In a video that has become viral, recruits are captured by their superiors who ask them to continue despite the fatigue of the majority.

Volta Regional Commander, DCOP, Edward Oduro Kwarteng, confirmed the incident and said investigations were underway.

He told Graphic Online that the deceased was one of the recruits seen in the viral video during training.

An autopsy report from the 37th Military Hospital revealed that the deceased had died from an "acute ventricular failure," said DCOP Kwarteng.

Meanwhile, the public has largely condemned the CEPS Academy after the video of the treatment of new recruits became viral.
