The Central Region Police Command through the Cape Coast High Court in the Central Region obtained a restraining order prohibiting the Effutu branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from launching a protest on Tuesday 5 January 2020.
The constituency party wrote to police protesting the results of the general election held last year.
But police said the group’s request could not be granted as they were unable to provide security for the protest due to “post-election events, multifaceted security operations for the season. celebrations and events preceding the investiture of the president elected on January 7, 2021. ”
The Central Regional Police Command therefore warned the general public, in particular the supporters, sympathizers and supporters of the National Democratic Congress of the district of Effutu, of the restriction order and to act in accordance.
The action follows a similar action in December 2020 where the Accra Regional Police Command also obtained a restraining order against the NDC, prohibit the party from launching into new demonstrations and protests in Accra over the election result.

The opposition party expresses in particular its indignation at what it describes as errors on the part of the Electoral Commission (EC) following the conduct of the voting exercise.
His flag bearer, John Dramani Mahama officially filed a petition to the Supreme Court to challenge the result of the ballot.
He however said that NDC will continue to use protests “Demand respect for the rule of law and protection of the life and property of the good people of Ghana”.
According to him, going to court does not prevent the party from organizing protests against the declared results.
One of the party’s legal team, Abraham Amaliba, explained that protests and election petitions are two separate issues that need to be distinguished.
