The police sergeant and a member of the new anti-armed robbery task force (AARTF) who was shot dead by armed thieves in Ntoaso, a town in the Eastern region, are in stable condition.

MyNewsGh.com has confirmed that the officer currently admitted to the police hospital suffered a serious gunshot wound to his hand that left him bleeding profusely for days.

The prompt intervention of doctors from Military Hospital 37 and Police Hospital saved the situation as plastic surgery was performed on the hand.

It should be recalled that the armed police of the Surveillance Unit of the National Directorate of Operations (NOD) and three other combat patrol teams visited Ntoaso last Wednesday following reports that weapons and ammunition had been covered up by a gang of armed thieves in the area.

Upon arriving at the scene, however, the suspected thieves fled upon seeing police. The team began to search and retrieve the weapons and, in the process, one of the suspected thieves (yet to be identified), who was hiding in an adjoining room, opened fire on the police and touched their hand one of the policemen, injuring both of his fingers in the process.

The police reacted accordingly and shot dead the suspected thief while another was arrested.

2,882 rounds of ammunition, BB rounds, a locally manufactured pistol, an AK 47 assault rifle, an MI6 rifle, a pump shotgun, a shotgun and 840 rounds of MI6 ammunition were recovered from the scene.
