Police arrested five people for causing the commotion
Ghana's police services were praised for the "swiftness" with which they arrested the young man who had chased out the district director of the West Krachi Assembly, Douglas Osei-Nti.
Police said last Thursday that five people, namely Mathias Banyolonso, Sarfo Sunkwa, Amos Eseikor, Tijani Shaibu and Murtala Yakubu, had been arrested for stirring up the commotion.
In particular, they were charged with badault, offensive behavior and unlawful damage.
In a statement issued Monday, June 3, the Center for Local Governance Advocacy (CGLA) warmly congratulated the police.
The Center has also expressed its concerns regarding the action of youth.
"The action of young people is not only barbaric, but also very irresponsible and a manifestation of blatant indiscipline," said the statement signed by the executive director, Vladimir Antwi Danso.
Youth action has not only discredited the credibility of local democracy and governance, but has also undermined Ghana's image in the courtesy of nations.
On Tuesday, May 28, the youths stormed the district badembly offices and locked up Mr. Osei-Nti's office.
They claimed that his actions were not for the benefit of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
"The CLGA calls on political parties to take into account the concerns of their grbadroots members, using party-driven rules, because not listening to them could create a disorganized and shameful situation for the party and the country in which they live. his outfit."
He asked the police to ensure that those arrested are treated in accordance with the law "in order to deter all those who intend to engage in such irresponsible behavior in the future".
