The Central Region Police Command obtained a court order to prevent the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from launching a protest march in the constituency of Effutu on Tuesday, January 5.
The restraining order was granted by the Cape Coast High Court on December 31, 2020, DSP Irene Serwaah Oppong, the Command’s public relations officer, said in a statement.
The statement signed by DSP Oppong and copied to Ghana News Agency in Cape Coast, said Effutu NDC’s request to launch a protest could not be granted.
“The NDC’s demand cannot be met by the police as the regional command is unable to ensure the safety of protesters following post-election events and multifaceted security operations during the holiday season.
He also indicated the events leading up to the inauguration of the president-elect on January 7, 2021 as part of the grounds.
The police command therefore urged the general public, especially followers, sympathizers and supporters of the NDC to adhere to the directive.
Meanwhile, the president of the constituency of NDC Effutu was duly notified of the court order.
