Police in the eastern region arrested a 20-year-old man to help investigate the killing of two people who were pursuing suspected goat thieves in Huhunya, Yilo Krobo Municipality.

Thomas Ayitey, a porter, was arrested Saturday in a bush in Agogo Junction by a mob that suspected him of being one of the so-called goat thieves.

Hours after the incident, a crowd arrested Ayitey in a bush and took him to Huhunya, claiming that he was one of two escaped robbers.

The angry mob of the city threatened to lynch Ayitey, but he was rescued and detained at the Huhunya Gate.

The police entered quickly and saved Ayitey at the police station.

"During his interrogation, he denied knowing about the incident and said that he and two others had gone to the bush of Otokporlu to transport lumber" , said a police reporter.

But the police said he stopped to help in the investigation of the case as a murder.
